PARTNERS
SEATREES
Seatrees was created to protect and restore ocean ecosystems for their ability to fight climate change, support biodiversity, and strengthen coastal communities. Built around surf culture and sustainability, it gives people a simple way to give back to the ocean by connecting them with restoration projects around the world.
From rebuilding mangroves in Indonesia to restoring kelp forests in California, Seatrees has shown how local action can spark global change. Through partnerships with brands, artists, and major climate initiatives, it has grown into a leading force in ocean restoration. Today, Seatrees is a movement uniting communities, businesses, and individuals to protect the ocean’s most vital ecosystems.
SUNFLOWER STAR LABORATORY
Sunflower Star Laboratory is a Monterey-based nonprofit working to reverse the collapse of sunflower sea stars along the West Coast. They develop scalable aquaculture methods to conserve and reintroduce sunflower sea stars and collaborate with the Pycnopodia Recovery Work Group to restore them in regions where they have disappeared.
The urgency is real. Sea star wasting syndrome devastated populations starting in 2013, causing a cascade across marine ecosystems. Sunflower sea stars are a key predator of purple urchins, which overgraze kelp. Without them, urchin numbers exploded and wiped out kelp forests.
Their mission is simple: rebuild this critical species so kelp ecosystems can recover.
FISH REEF PROJECT
The Fish Reef Project is a global ocean restoration effort that turns empty seafloors into thriving marine ecosystems. These reefs create new habitat and feeding and breeding grounds for species like fish, turtles, seabirds, abalone, scallops, and marine algae.
By easing pressure on natural reefs, Fish Reefs help prevent overfishing and support the recovery of damaged ecosystems. They increase marine life abundance, offer new opportunities for research and eco-tourism, and require no heavy enforcement or public funding to maintain. The project is also carbon negative due to enhanced marine life and reduced reliance on land-based protein. Their goal is a worldwide network of fish reefs supported by community involvement.
GREENWAVE
Some people wonder if using kelp in our products means we are simply replacing what we take from the ocean. The answer is no. Our kelp is sustainably sourced through GreenWave, a nonprofit rebuilding ocean ecosystems through regenerative kelp farming.
GreenWave trains and supports ocean farmers who grow kelp and shellfish in ways that restore marine environments, strengthen coastal communities, and help fight climate change. Their tools, training, and community network make regenerative seaweed farming accessible and scalable. Through the Kelp Climate Fund, they also support farmers for the ecological benefits their kelp provides. Their mission is to expand regenerative kelp farming for healthier oceans.
SHELLWORKS
As outdoor enthusiasts and surfers, we see plastic pollution daily in the places we love. More than 120 billion units of beauty packaging end up in landfills each year, and over 400 million tons of plastic waste are produced globally. More than half comes from consumer products and packaging. We refused to be part of that, which is why we partnered with Shellworks.
Shellworks makes packaging from Vivomer, a 100 percent bio based, home compostable, plastic free material that contains no petrochemicals, BPA, or PFAS. It performs like plastic but breaks down naturally without leaving microplastics. Every Kelp Skincare product uses Vivomer, so our packaging returns to the earth without a trace.
